Banned Books Week 2014 Celebrates Graphic Novels!

In honor of this year’s Banned Books Week celebration of graphic novels, First Second Books will be calling out important banned books – including comics – with our authors across our social media accounts. We believe that showcasing banned books throughout history is an important way to demonstrate to people just what they’d be missing if these books vanished from our libraries, classrooms, and bookstores.

Follow First Second on Facebook and on Tumblr to learn more about our participation in Banned Book Week.

Macmillan honors Annie On My Mind author’s memory with a donation to NCAC’s Kids’ Right to Read Project

Nancy Garden’s groundbreaking novel, Annie On My Mind, first published in 1982, introduced literature on LGBT themes to a generation of young readers. In 1993, copies of the book were burned in Kansas City to protest the presence of a book about a lesbian relationship in the high school library. Garden became an outspoken defender of the First Amendment rights of readers of all ages.

Macmillan has honored Nancy’s memory with a donation to the Kids’ Right to Read Project (KRRP), a National Coalition Against Censorship signature project. For more information, visit their website.
